Like all fine instruments, MR guitars require periodic care and maintenance. Your instrument will perform best if it is kept clean. A routine cleaning of the instrument using a clean lint-free cloth and a light coat of quality guitar polish will keep your instrument looking and performing at its peak. Gold-plated parts should be wiped clean after each use to prevent discoloration from skin oils and acids.
Always store your instrument at room temperature, avoiding temperature and humidity extremes. The fine tone woods used in your guitar are significantly affected by these parameters. A neck warp or top crack can render any guitar unplayable. You may wish to use an affordable/small humidifier in your case to compensate for any changes in the environmental conditions.
Keep your instrument tuned to concert pitch under normal playing and storage situations. If the instrument is to be stored for a long period, reduce the string tension slightly; one or two turns of each tuning machine will be adequate.
Please take extra care with Shellack pollishes - they are heat sensible.
All questions about your guitar, serial number, production date and so on, will be answered by Manuel himself. Just write him a message here with the contact formular.
BONOID is a synthetic material (similar to TUSQ), with a high glass content. Extremely hard, dense and very rich in overtones.
Why not use Malemine or Tusq nut and saddle? Is Bonoid superior?
All are good materials as substitute for bone. What you prefer is subject to personal taste and desire.
Animal glue is not used at all, not on any model! But we use a SHELLACK-based varnish for the tops of our MAGISTRAL models and for the special TESORO models (here we spray the guitars all around with this special varnish. As the components of this varnish are derived from animals, it is NOT vegan. See information here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shellac and here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_polish
All MR guitars that come from Manuel's Spanish workshop have a gold-colored sticker on the finish. All other guitars have a maple inlay under the varnish.
Yes, no hide or other animal glue ist used to glue the wooden laminates.
Yes!
Yes, of course. We recommend either a GRAPH TECH TUSQ or the BONOID material that our company GEWA music offers in its catalog. MR Exotica as well.
This is true for some of the guitars made in the spanish workshop. Fallen trees are used but this wood is rare. This must be regarded as a kind of custom order. Also the coffee box wood is rare, here we must ask Manuel what is available each time we receive such a request. Ebony: Manuel has a large quantity of very old wood, including ebony. And he has some ebony from the Congo project.
